Curanatura is a Slovakian company that first started selling bamboo toothbrushes in 2013. They have designed their toothbrush and earbud range together with a dental hygienist to offer the best possible performance, as well as strong environmental credentials.
Curanatura use solid moso bamboo to make their toothbrush handles. Bamboo is the fastest growing plant in the world, and is an endlessly renewable resource. It grows naturally without using any pesticides or fertilizers, takes in greenhouse gasses and produces 35% more oxygen than the equivalent trees. Bamboo is also naturally antibacterial and antimicrobial
Truthpaste is the UKs first zero-waste, vegan and cruelty-free mineral based toothpaste. It was started by Marisa in 2013. She makes each jar by hand in Brighton with the finest grade of bentonite clay, combined with organic neem and aloe vera, myrrh and a unique blend of essential oils. Truthpaste has strong anti-septic, anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties that help fight the bacteria that cause decay, gingivitis and gum disease. Unlike conventional or other natural toothpastes, truthpaste does not contain any foaming agents, emulsifiers, thickening agents or artificial colorants. Each ingredient is chosen for its health benefit. Where possible she uses organic ingredients and always avoids plastic. Truthpaste will not use any animal products, nor test on animals.
This beautiful bamboo toothbrush is the brainchild of Catherine and Catherine who combined their expertise as a hospital surgeon and a fashion buyer, to create Truthbrush. Every year over a billion plastic toothbrushes are thrown away worldwide, ending up in landfill, in the sea or washed up on a beach. Using a bamboo toothbrush with a biodegradable handle is a small change but together we can make a big difference. Bamboo is the perfect material for the Truthbrush as it is beautiful to look at, warm to touch and fully biodegradable. The natural antibacterial and antifungal properties of bamboo mean the Truthbrush is hygienic too. Bamboo is resistant to natural pests, which means it is farmed organically.
Know The Origin
Head in the Woods was founded by Sanne Slotemaker in June 2018. It started off as a creative sewing studio, open to the public for sewing sessions and lessons. But soon after opening, Sanne got inspired by a local zero waste shop and after a chat with the owner, the first set of face wipes was a fact. Since then, the range has expanded and Sanne is now supplying a growing list of (mainly zero waste) retailers.
We have partnered with Sanne at Head in the Woods to create a plastic free alternative. Our facewipes are made in Sanne’s home studio in Rossendale, allowing her to be close to her children. We love working with Sanne to create high quality, supersoft and lasting wipes.
At Know The Origin we've worked with Friendly Soaps to bring you a variety of nourishing, handmade, plastic free shampoo and soap bars.
Friendly Soaps was started by Rob Costello and Geoff Kerouac, they make soaps that contain no animal products or by-products and are registered with Cruelty Free International and The Vegan Society. They use an ancient cold-press method of soap-making with zero by-products and no waste. Every bar is poured, cut, stamped and hand packed here in the UK. They were awarded Ethical Consumer’s best buy for their leading ethics, every bar is SLS FREE, PARABEN FREE, PALM OIL FREE, PLASTIC FREE and CRUELTY FREE.
Earth Conscious is a UK business and was originally founded in 2014 by Angela Manton out of a desire to create a natural deodorant that works effectively. Realising that the well-being of our planet is closely connected to the well-being of our bodies, it's important that we look after both. Their natural deodorant isn't just another product jumping on the green and clean bandwagon, it is about functionality and affordability too.
They manufacture in the UK, using eco-friendly packaging and top quality certified organic ingredients that cause no harm. Additionally, a portion of each of their sales goes towards the Marine Conservation Society, a UK charity for the protection of our seas, shores and wildlife.
