Organic Gishwati Cloud Forest Coffee: Rwanda Strength 4 (Beans)
SOURC-ORGA-GIFTI-1517
An extremely well rounded coffee, with lively citrus highlights and a caramel sweetness, which lingers on the pallet and is perfect for breakfast, lunch or dinner.
Gishwati Cloud Forest coffee is grown 60km from the unique ecological hotspot that is Virunga Park and is home to a quarter of the world’s last mountain gorillas and other endangered zebra-looking Okapi. Gishwati use to host a big number different species of primates such as Chimpanzees and Golden monkeys. However, much of it was cleared for subsistence farming. Deforestation was so intensive that by 2001 only 6km of native Gishwati forest remained.
The coffee rewards 700 organic farmers for sustainable land management practices. This is not yet a carbon registered project and Source Climate Change Coffee have been talking to the NGOs about how they might help raise some funds to support a payment for ecosystem services initiative. In the meantime, they are keeping things in the family by offsetting the Rwandan coffee carbon footprint with the carbon from Source Climate Change Coffee's Ugandan farmers!
Includes 227g Coffee Beans

Source Climate Change Coffee
With over 15 years’ experience working in ethical trading and rainforest protection, Cristina has spent her career pushing for businesses to prioritise ethical values alongside profit. On a work trip to Peru Cristina witnessed the ecological importance of the rainforest and the disastrous impact that illegal forest clearing was having on biodiversity, indigenous communities, and our climate. Source Climate Change Coffee is the only conservation-led coffee company which is founded to protect the world’s forests. Each gourmet coffee product that is bought contributes to carbon offsetting projects using reforestation carbon credits. Each bag has a unique tracking number for open transparency from the raw materials to the forest conservation project that has benefitted.
