Natural fibres can be a great way to be a more sustainable fibre. Organic cotton fibres for example are a much lower environmental impact than conventionally produced cotton. The reason for this is that organic cotton a much lower water consumption than conventional cotton fibre. Organic cotton clothing also does not use pesticides, fertilisers or insecticides in its production making it a much better choice for the planet insects the bees! By not using chemical fertilisers a lot of the petrol chemicals used to make them are not used.

Bamboo is a hugely popular sustainable fibre for several reasons. As a plant bamboo is actually a grass not a trees. It is one of the fastest growing plant in the world. The sources of the bamboo on the Know the Origin site all come from FSC certified sources, it is a very versatile fabric and the material produced has properties that make it super soft on the skin. It also has a high tensile strength and good moisture absorbency making it ideal for that tough workout.
Bamboo needs very little water to grow and for the most part is organically grown using no pesticides. By using no pesticides this helps reduce bamboo carbon foot print as none of the chemicals used to produce the pesticides in the first place are needed. This is one of the many advantageous properties of bamboo.
During the processing of bamboo cellulose to make the incredibly soft fabrics the processing is a closed loop meaning that 99% of the chemicals and water are reused and recycled making it a great material for the planet and ideally suited for making activewear. Textiles like this have a positive impact and you can do your bit by buying items made from textiles.
